Frequently asked questions

WeTree is mental health engagement made simple - an online safe space where users are invited to share their inner self and support their inner circle in as little as 60 seconds a day. The app was created in an effort to combat the isolation that often comes with the lie people often tell each other when they say “I’m ok.” Our mission is to normalize mental health by tapping into our greatest natural resource: each other.

The WeTree app allows users to check in with each other through a quick and easy rating system that measures positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and purpose, accomplishment and health, or PERMAH, on a daily basis, in addition to an open-ended questionnaire that asks what the user was grateful for that day and what they could use help with. The user’s chosen support system of other people engaged on the app are able to view these daily ratings and open-ended responses, allowing them the opportunity to follow up with their inner circle when they can see someone else might be in need of support.

WeTree is unique because it taps into a new category in the mental health space, “mental health engagement.” While using tools like mindfulness and meditation apps, getting counseling or going to therapy is a good place to start, WeTree has created a new category in the mental health app space by creating a sense of community among users.

  • The Positive Psychology Movement is based on the principles of Positive Psychology. Positive Psychology is defined by The University of Pennsylvania’s Positive Psychology Center as “the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive. The field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play.
  • Positive Psychology is an official academic field of study and is “evidence based” and uses the scientific method (hypothesis, prediction, study, research, analysis) to understand the positive and emotionally fulfilling aspects of human behavior

  • We define someone’s “inner circle” as the people who are your closest confidants and the individuals you choose that will see the results of your daily assessment. They are the people you are prepared to be in community with and vulnerable with. I can be as simple as you and one person. Example: You and your spouse or you and your best friend.
  • The inner circle also serves a solidarity group. You are committing to encourage each other when their daily pulse results are high and to reach out when they are low. Celebrating their wins and supporting them when they are struggling.

  • The Daily Pulse is a daily assessment that we also refer to as “The Mental Health Minute™.” This assessment takes less than 60 seconds to complete and contains 6 simple questions where the users rate on a scale of 1-5 how they are feeling in each of the six P.E.R.M.A.H. categories based on the last 24 hours. The assessment also contains two open ended questions. “What are you grateful for today?” and “What do you need help with?”
  • Once completed the daily pulse results show up in their “Inner Circle” dashboard where only the people you have chosen can see them. Anything the user rates as 1 or 2 will show up in the dashboard colored in red indicating that people in your inner circle should reach out and check in on you. Anything rated as 5 will show up in the dashboard colored in green indicating that you want to reach out and encourage or celebrate with the user.
  • Can other users on WeTree see your personal “Inner Circle” or communicate with users outside of their “Inner Circle”?

  • Vetting for this app is not needed. The daily pulse is based on decades of evidence based work done by positive psychologists for the past several decades.
  • WeTree is not attempting to create any new methodologies or principles to positive psychology but rather taking the great work that has already been done and wrapping a technology layer around it so that it can be consumed by anyone.
  • Specifically, the P.E.R.MA.H. methodology used in the daily pulse was created by celebrated work at the University of Pennsylvania’s Positive Psychology Center.
